Northern Virginia Fine Art Children’s Portraits

February 11, 2018

Izzy was so serious during out shoot because she had the flu!  I think she still looks stunning even when she doesn’t feel well.  If your own children were ill before their session, we would reschedule, but it’s much easier to torture your own children;)  Our little yorkie Tanner made an appearance to give her cuddles.

Eastern Shore Engagement | Christina & Gregg

November 30, 2017
Christina & Gregg’s Eastern Shore Engagement Session

I met with Christina & Gregg at the end of November, totally expecting to freeze, but in true Maryland form, the weather was unpredictably beautiful!  The trees are totally bare in the DC area, so I was pleasantly surprised to still see all the fall colors, when all that was separating us was the bay. They brought their beautiful dog with them and we ended the session with a perfect sunset on the beach.

New York City Hip Hop Styled Shoot

March 1, 2017

I am so excited to share my daughter’s 10th birthday celebration and her

Hip Hop styled fashion shoot in the middle of Times Square New York City!

Believe it or not, I’m the mother of a 10 year old.  I don’t know how it happened, but it happened.   In keeping true to my way of parenting, we went all out and invited a friend to NYC for the weekend.

I just knew that Izzy’s yearly birthday shoot would have to really special for the big 10.  I found this sequin jacket at Bloomingdales just like the one Taylor Swift wore for her 1989 tour.  It’s now sold out EVERYWHERE I look.  I’m so glad I didn’t procrastinate on this one.  That boombox?  Borrowed from the neighbor, circa 1981.

I hope she never forgets the experience!  I know I won’t.

We decided to drive up since its only a few hours away, and we couldn’t get there fast enough.  We stayed at the Hyatt Centric Times Square and that will be my go to place when I can’t afford the Plaza from now on;)  Such an awesome hotel, huge rooms (for NYC), and steps away from all the action in Times Square.  Here are some fun picks of the rest of our time there.

Tulip Field Family Portraits | Burnside Farms | Northern VA portrait photographer

April 27, 2016

If you haven’t seen the tulip fields at Burnside Farms in Haymarket, VA, it is incredible.  The tagline “Holland in Haymarket” on their website, is no exaggeration.  During their business hours, you can go out into the fields and pick tulips.  You dig them out of the ground and take them with the bulb still attached.  I love that about the farm because you can replant it and enjoy the tulips for years.

After hours, you can obtain a permit for photography.  This is the second season that this family and I have used Burnside Farms for their session.  You can looked back from last summer and see their sunflower session here.

Joshua Tree | Heck Yeah Photo Camp | Part 2

February 29, 2016

In my last blog post about Heck Yeah, I told you a little about the start of my trip and I shared the images I took of the beautiful Ivy.

During our workshop, we listened to some of the most talented and influential photographers in the industry. I learned something valuable and sometimes mind blowing by each of the speakers. We focused on telling a story and capturing the in between moments, anticipation.

This is Kirsten and Kyle. They are a real couple and the chemistry between them was so strong.  And how about the amazing coat Kirsten is wearing?  This is a great example of how incorporating one statement piece can really make your images pop and stand out without overwhelming you.  Kyle’s color choice for his shirt really compliments her outfit.
